French Sunflowers

Sunflowers in the Dordogne

More than anything else, sunflowers remind me of France! Many people say they are reminded of Italy when they see their brilliant yellow flowers but France will always be upper most in my mind.

We have just spent a couple of days near Bergerac surrounded by fields of stunning flowers. Some are nearly finished but the majority present a sea of yellow as far as the eye can see.

Last night, as the sun was setting, I noticed the wonderful cloud formations in the sky and raced to the sunflower field to take a photo before the ever changing colours completely disappeared.

I didn’t want to miss this!

Beautiful France!

SO beautiful! 🙂 When I see sunflowers I think of Australia. 🙂 There are fields and fields of them down the road from our farm. 🙂

Thanks Krista. I didn’t even think of OZ!! How lucky you are to have them near you and to be able to wander amongst them.

Gorgeous photos! We recently drove through fields and fields of sunflowers in Budapest but my photos through the bus window just resulted in a yellow blur.

      * driving through Hungary – no fields in the city 🙂

Spent quite a bit of time in France but so far it has all been in winter. No sunflowers around there. Just lots of frost and snow (which I absolutely love) and my favourite – the Christmas markets. But definitely want to spend a summer there. I’m sure it will be a completely different experience.

Hi Riley. I’d love to spend a winter in France..I’m sure it’s very beautiful at this time of the year and the Xmas market would definitely be on top of the list to visit! I was a bit worried about the heat in August but the weather in the Dordogne was perfect. I think Paris at any time is beautiful!

They are such happy flowers. When we kept cockatiels some of their seed would sometimes take hold in my veggie garden and I would be rewarded by a big happy face every time I looked out of my kitchen window. I can’t imagine a field this big full of them.

They are happy flowers Jan and a field of them definitely brings a smile to your face! I love walking through them!

I always think of France too when I see those sunflower fields. Reminds me of watching the Tour de France riders ride by those beautiful fields every year. I would love to have these two pictures of yours hanging in my house, I love them that much!

Thank you for your compliment Karene. My daughter is going to print them for her flat too so I’ll see how they look when we return home. I too remember seeing them on the Tour de France! They’re even better in real life so you’ll have to plan your visit to France when they’re out!

Hi Jenny, aww sunflowers, love them. Your photos brought sunshine to my day. You second photo gave me goosebumps – with the flowers and the sunrise, it’s just so magical.

Thanks Marisol. The night before I took these shots, friends of our hosts were talking about a stunning sunset they saw from the terrace and lo and behold we were lucky enough to experience a similar sunset the next night.

I’m with you on the sunflower-France connection – and what a stunning set of photos. It takes me back to a bike ride through the Dordogne when they were in bloom.

Sunflowers certainly bring back a lot of wonderful memories for everyone, Leigh
